When religious leaders criticized Him for healing on the Sabbath, He pointed out that even they would rescue an animal that fell into a well on that day. His point was clear: the Sabbath was never meant to stand in the way of genuine care for people in need. Caring for your mother in a real emergency, or helping her with something urgent, fits that same spirit. That’s not “work” in the sense the Sabbath guards against, it’s an act of love, which is exactly what the day is meant to be about. Where it’s worth being thoughtful is routine, non-urgent tasks that could easily be done another day.
