Original weekly commentary following the current Sabbath School quarterly — verse by verse, day by day, written fresh for this site.
From Peter’s confession at Caesarea Philippi to Philip’s four prophesying daughters, a teenage Timothy trusted with real authority, and Jesus’ own warning about convincing counterfeits — Lesson 4 traces how the gift of prophecy carries over, intact, into the New Testament church.
Elijah on the run, Micaiah outnumbered four hundred to one, Huldah’s word treated as decisive, and a city of comfortable liars in Jeremiah’s Jerusalem — Lesson 3 looks at what the Old Testament actually means by “prophet.”
Abraham, Elijah, Isaiah, Daniel, and John the Baptist each answered a call that came at real personal cost — Lesson 2 looks at what a prophetic summons actually asks of the person who receives it.
Genesis opens with a God who walks and talks with the people He made — Lesson 1 traces what happened to that conversation after Eden, and why this quarter’s theme of prophecy is really about a God who never stopped trying to speak.
Paul closes Second Corinthians with a single-sentence blessing: the grace of Jesus, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The quarter’s final lesson looks at each part and what it meant for a bruised, divided church.
Paul’s closing chapters to Corinth turn sharp and personal — siege-warfare imagery, sarcastic “boasting,” a résumé written in scars, and a call to self-examination, all aimed at protecting a church from teaching that only looks like the gospel.
Paul’s appeal for the Jerusalem collection grounds Christian giving in the self-giving example of Christ himself — cheerful, planned, humble, and accountable, ending not in a ledger but in gratitude.
Paul defends his ministry not with credentials but with changed lives — treasure carried in cracked clay jars, a ministry of reconciliation reaching outward, a call to holiness, and real joy after real conflict.
Paul’s letters to Corinth show what ministry looks like when it’s driven by love instead of duty — comfort in suffering, honesty under pressure, flexibility for someone else’s sake, and forgiveness that actually lands.
